I wen to work Sunday Morning at 4Am at the police stattion, and the first call came at 4:30,tree down and street blocked at 212 Meatte. Then it started snowballing, trees down, lines down, trees across buildings, stuff was flying everywhere.Paged the street commisioner,Joe Walters, and he went into action..Tom Doering who is with the police dept, started radiong me,telling me of streets blocked, then the call came that 162 east of town had a tree across the road.Highway Dept notified, and they cleaned it up,and then sent a big front end loader with driver into town to assist us.
By then the fire dept had been paged to help us,and the off duty police were paged in.The CERT team swung into action.
There were many things to deal with, people on oxygen, needed electricity to keep their Oxygen going,a generator, etc. The school had just got in a big shipment of meat on thursday, and they did not have a generator. However the President of the school board had one and he hooked it up,and saved the meat. The Nursing home did not have the proper generators,to care for their patients.Kudos to the ambulance crew and others for taking care of people who needed oxygen.
Let me tell you now, that Tony Hill, the Superintendent of schools,is a big asset to the school system.
We had some local citizens come in with Chain saws to help out.Randy Brands came in with a tractor, with a front end loader, and chain saw,and helped make a couple of streets passable.
The fire dept guys worked hard, the fire chief worked hard, the police chief worked hard.Ronnie Forrester came by the Police station and helped out.Nonnie Laux came and helped with the phone and Radio, along with Chris Rudd. The Mayor came by and offered his assistance.Thru it all we never had one ambulance run,no one was injured. There is still a lot of clean up to do,but we will get her done.
I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way.If I were to start naming names,I would forget some one,so Just Thanks to everyone.Goose
