The Economy and Farmers

The economy is having some effect on the farmers, altho most of them are keeping their emotions in check.I talked with one farmer yesterday who told me he was scared, and he has every right to be.With a new President coming on board, and a new secretary of Agriculture coming on,most farmers are delaying purchases of equiptment for a little while. This new Secretary of Agriculture comes from Iowa, and they typically oppose big farm operations,as opposed to up there where there are mostly family farms.Big farm operations, get bigger Govt. Payments, and this administration, may be opposed to that.
The price of Potash has not fell, very much,so do not expect the farmers to put out much. Most of them have their PH Levels in good shape, and if they are not, they can put down Lime, and it is a lot cheaper..
Cotton seems to be taking the biggest hit,as far as prices are concerned. Most of the farmers I have talked to say they cannot raise cotton for the price it is bringing. However things seem to be looking up for the farmers and gins who had cotton booked with Reinhardt out of Texas. If they can get a good Judge,to release the Money,I have been told that it is there.Goose
