CHARLESTON MAN LEADS POLICE ON CHASE

MINER, MO (KFVS) - Tommie Cassel, 36, of Charleston, was taken to jail Thursday following a reported  attempted robbery and high speech chase that led officers through parts of Scott and New Madrid Counties.
According to Miner Police Chief Chris Griggs, the incident began just after 11 p.m. Thursday when a clerk reported a man walked Break Time Fuel Station on East Malone in Miner and demanded money.  The suspect ran off when the clerk refused.
Sikeston officers, acting on a description and a tip from a witness, tried to stop the suspect's vehicle but the suspect refused.  Several other police agencies soon became involved.
Griggs said the chase ended in Portageville when the suspect ran over a set of spike strips.
Cassel is being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.
